@Dee: I know how you feel. I've been trying not to watch the news so much, but I can't help it. I feel so sad for the hurricane victims. It hurts so much to see them suffer.

With each passing day, things are getting worse. No power, no water, no food, no clean clothes, no emergency help, no safety, etc. Where's the help? Just this morning I saw a news report on tv where ventilator patients were being transported by helicopters at the airport. Some of the paitents were lying in the rain in bad condition as overworked healthcare workers were trying to figure out which hospitals could take them. In another new story, babies and pregnant women who have been without food and water sat near the Superdome waiting to be evacuated. Things just can't go on like this.

Dee, I know what you mean. That post I wrote on Katrina Catastrophe I wrote while watching.

I agree, we can go to space, send rovers to Mars, while trying to discover if there was life on the planet and now the people of our world who are fighting for their lives need our help and we can't do anything!!!

I feel helpless, I wish I could do something, but I am just overwhelmed with frustrations and problems of my own that all I can do is Pray for them each day...

...Gotta go very emotional right now....

Girl I never even thought of it THAT way. You are sooo right. We can get a space shuttle to go to other planets and get them back safely from OUTER FUCKING SPACE!!! But we can't get people out of New Orleans? Unfuckingbelievable. What's even worse??? That we CAN get them out. We absolutely can. The government just WON'T. It doesn't care. They are black (for the most part). They are poor. They are black AND poor. Bush might see this as a damn blessing.

Though I would never live anywhere else... I swear, there are times that I hate this country. *shaking head*

I took a few days off from posting because I didn't want to write anything about Katrina. I don't have any family in New Orleans and have only spent four days total there, but yet every time I see something on the news about what happened it brings a tear to my eye. I live in New York and was here on September 11th, but on September 12th, I had moved on. I went out and brought a playstation so that I could avoid watching the news. For some reason I am totally captivated and emotionally moved by this event. I have become totally numb over this event and like many other people, feel totally helpless.

And yet we can send aid to Iraq with a moments notice. Where is New Orleans aid? It is like a bad movie. Surely this can't be happening in our country. You would expect this in a 3rd world country, but not ours.

I was reading an interview/commentary thingy someone had with the Mayor of N O. He hit the nail on the head and asked when did Iraq send in a request for aid, along with the Tsunami victims.

We can put our armed forces on a C-130 in less than 24 hrs to OTHER countries, but it takes us nearly a week to go around the corner to help our own?? WTF ever.

My husband's unit is leaving Sunday to be of help. IMHO, they should've been gone last Monday.

This situation is bigger than all of us.....The only thing we can do right now is pray for all of those men, women, and children who are suffering right now.

This to shall pass, I don't mean to sound cruel but everything that can be done will be done.

I know the feeling. It's a sad day in America when we can't even take care of our own right here.

That right there WAS a mouthful! True. True indeed, Diva. I'm in disbelief when I watch the coverage because the scene resembles something out of a Third-World country.

Signed, heavy-hearted as well.

Hey Dee. My family was affected by the hurricane. All of my family in New Orleans was able to escape before the hurricane, but they've all lost their homes, businesses and jobs.

I also have a cousin and his family from Pass Christian, MS whom we haven't heard a word from. That city is now wiped off the map because of Katrina. It is feared that he and his family have perished.
